I was curious if a job site tool steel tool box would pass inspection for storing 3”-6” shells. Picture below of example what I’m looking at. It is 22gauge thick, fireproof, theft proof since it will be bolted down and secured locks. Any advice or other magazine ideas welcome. Thanks In advance.

I only see 1 lock on the one pictured. I believe 2 are required for a magazine. I would suggest obtaining an orange book and read through the requirements for an explosives magazine.

It would totally work. Net Explosive Wt. for an Type IV Indoor Magazine is 50lb., so it won't hold very much, but you can get your license with it. We used 2-external hasps with 2-5-cyl. hardened Master locks, as pictured. We lined the inside with wood but you could just paint the inside with water based epoxy paint. It doesn't need to be bolted down inside but it's more secure that way. (Ie.: 6" shell gross wt. = 1435g, net. ex. wt. = 718g , 3" shell gross wt. = 236g, net. ex. wt. = 118g).

To be clear, getting a Permit or License is a serious endeavor, your records have to be perfect and you have to keep them for 5 years. It won't be that useful if you only stick with an Indoor Magazine. So please give it careful consideration.Master Lock - Hockey Puck.jpgIMG_3280.jpgIMG_3282.jpg

Thanks. I do have the orange book and from what I read it would work except for the two locks needed. I am looking at another one. I just do a few shows a year with around 15-20 shells 3”-5”. Eventually I want to expand more and will get a shipping container been working with consumer stuff for many years and the past couple been working with some display shells. I appreciate the info. I was apart of mpag and re joining this coming year.

I think this is what BobnNC was talking about...
