All the "Good" stuff

Well basically this was started about the sale of Overload and someone getting busted on the overloads.

So, when people started to go side ways on the why- that's when it did go a stray.

I blew my hand up while loading a shell 30 years ago tomorrow night. Accidents happen. I wasn't drunk, high or anything. Back in those days reloading was done. Cheap quick match was probably the culprit.

If someone researched accidents- Drunk, high, or minors has to be top on the list. The severity of the injury might fall into the minor in the 1.4 legal, overload medium, and severe in the 1.3 market. But a dumbass that is drunk or high shooting a festival ball off his head- you can't fix stupid.

Is he a dumb ass if he doesn’t know what will happen? How often do people joke around with a firearm in their mouth and pull the trigger? I’d wager rarely because they know what will happen.

So in this case if people were educated instead of calling them stupid or taking toys away, these things might be prevented. That’s my point.

And in regards to the child that found an un-detonated Rocket, he’d Probly still have a hand if he was educated. Probly not a guarantee but I’d like to think it would be less likely to happen.

Points taken,

I wish it would- but it won't. It's amazing when you drink or smoke how big some peoples balls get. The companies can put all the warning on them and it just won't happen. How many times do you see kids throwing metal sparklers because mommy and daddy are too busy partying? And the fireworks were at fault. And were talking sparklers.

Some people think that the only safe fireworks are the ones shot by professionals- because they are trained.

That's what the CPSC is heading for in the metal BS.

Education is a good idea but it won't slow down or stop the stupidity. To the best of my knowledge 90%+ of those who drive drunk have been educated on the danger of doing so.

Now we can get the thread back on track. It's about overloads. Surprisingly no one wants to talk about how hobbyist are the driving force that create the demand for these overloaded products. The average customer I encounter working in a fireworks store don't know overloads exist or where to get them.

Ok, well from a mostly wholesale/sometimes retail/answers retail phone calls all day perspective...

People ask for overloads and maydee's CONSTANTLY.

First time here? it's about a %90 chance they will ask for something they shouldn't have... so much so that the conversation is pretty much %100 predictable:

Them: "hello can i get some/do you have any ________"
...
Me: "...well no that would be illegal, that stuff hasn't been legal since the 70's, you can actually get in a lot of trouble just for having that kind of stuff... you might even spend time in federal prison if you do."
...
Them: "but my friend just bought some last _______ , how can they buy them if they aren't legal"?
...
Me: "you can buy heroin too but that doesn't make it legal"

i swear i've had this exact conversation 5000 times

No kidding Jason-

I do remember when you could get a permit for "those" items for Ag. use only, but again- that was back in the late 60's until they ran out of stock stores had.

With the legal product we have now days, that's all they need for backyard displays.

yeah that was back when those light blue "globe crackers" were going around... had a nice bang to them but nothing like the real good ones.

it's funny you can go back to the day they banned flash crackers and you can see that the very next day was when all these games started.

oh we can't sell cherry bombs anymore? cool we'll call them military simulators...
... i mean AG crackers
... i mean bird bangers
... i mean add a rocket to them and call them thunder sticks

... and on and on and on

and as much as i love playing around with loud it's not worth jail to mess with any of it anymore.

someone hands me one to light at an open shoot... hell yeah... but i don't want them anywhere near my stash. all they need to find is one of those and they can take all my cool 1.4 stuff i've been collecting for decades.

not worth the risk.

You’re could’ve simply disagreed with the education point but to compare launching a mortar tube off your head and driving drunk is a bit of a stretch. The consensus is you’ll die by launching from your head, yes? Just like the gun analogy I used. People can drive drunk and survive.

Have some faith in humans. People aren’t that stupid.

Want a solution? Make this stuff 100% legal and all this overload Mumbo jumbo goes away. Class B is easily accessible and shot en masse everyday. You should see the shows I saw over the past few days 😂

I know this post is older, and the incident with the boy is tragic. But, we all can learn from it.

Personally I use this story to educate people as to the importance of 3 things:
1) always walk the shot site post show.
2) always set up a safe perimeter
3) even a legal 1.4 60g can will blow your hand off. So keep distance and properly brace your tubes and racks.

I keep a photo on my phone of a dear friends mangled hand to illustrate the danger behind cutting corners.

FYI, he lost his hand to a 40g ball shell that tipped over into his hand 10 yards away. no overload, just a $7 box artillery shell.

educate the new guys

Well, if anyone finds any of the listed items in their collection, I am happy to safely dispose of it for them. I am well trained in correctly disposing of these types of items, and will promise that they will be destroyed in a fun and safe manner.

My point was about educating people on risky behaviors which seems to have gone right over your head.

After what we saw in 2020 my faith in humans has not increased...
