Veline Stars and Phenolic Resin Questions.

Hi. I am an aspiring pyrotechnic and just had a few questions about Veline Stars and Phenolic Resin. I am looking at recipes from this page Veline Fireworks Stars Color System . The binder is red gum. As most of you know, red gum is fairly expensive and Phenolic resin is very affordable. Is it possible to replace red gum with Phenolic resin in the same ratios. You would just mix the Phenolic resin powder into the composition with a little rubbing alcohol and press them similar to dextrin stars? I heard that the Chinese use Phenolic resin so I was also wondering if it had any benefits? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I sent off your question to a friend who is knowledgeable about building and he told me red gum is relatively low priced. May be location or supplier?
