Rain Setup - NYE

We use 2'x4' wood boards and affix the cakes to the boards with hot glue. We stack the boards in our DIY aluminum frames to transport them. This helped us on NYE as we staged under awning in an aweful rainstorm(2.4" in 12 hours). Then we carried to the filed during holes in the heavy rain, and covered in 3mil plastic 10'x25' sheets, folded over. It took us about 2 hours to fully deploy a scripted 112 cake/15 minute display, about 1-hour unloading under cover(using quickplugs) and 1-hour dropping 10 boards(in 15-20mph wind) and covering with plastic. The ATV helped deliver the boards in heavy mud on a narrow penisula at a marina. The wind dropped at shoot time and we got the show off. Pretty crappy conditions.

We were a 3-man crew delivering and setting up the show in the field. Prior to delivery it took us about 15 man hours to pull product, fuse & glue to boards, and stack boards and gear in the trailer for delivery. Most likely we would have canceled the display due to rain unless we had done most of the work beforehand, allowing us to spend minimal time in the field.

Our latest idea, stolen from PyroU, is affixing brown wall panel boards(pre-cut 2'x4') to our wood boards with duck tape, then hot gluing cakes to those boards. For disposal, we'll just cut the tape and drop the wall panel board & cakes into a dumpster. Even with coated boards, we've had to use a heat gun to scrape the hot glue & paper off the boards to reuse them, hopefully we won't have to do that anymore.

Always a nice feeling when your show works despite inclement weather. Isn't it nice when the wind lets up just as show time approaches?

Another shoot last weekend. The brown wallboard taped to 2'x4' wood boards saved us some time and mess when throwing it away with cakes still attached.
