I was planning on adding some 1.75 Salutes to the finale for the show I put on for my church each 4th. It is a 1.4 consumer show and today I was notified that the person whose land we use did not want them in the show because it might scare the livestock that is close by and they might scare the little kids and babies that will be at the show. Would you be bummed about this news or would you just say ok you wont do them and move on?
 
I'd be bummed as a finale to me has to have a salute ending but there is not much you can do unless the land owner is open to discussion
 
I don't think so as they took there concerns to the pastor of the church and he notified me instead of the person whose land we are using which we know and attends our church also getting with me about there concerns. I am the one doing the show and I know about the products I am using more than anyone else who will be attending the display. I just felt like a little kid getting told you can't do this by the pastor. That's what kinda hurt my feelings about it.
 
Yeah, I would feel the same. If it's all on your dime, maybe next year find somewhere else that will let you do your show as you want.
 
Just say ok and move on. Is taking a risk putting them in the show anyway or making a big deal about it with the land owner worth the possibility him not letting you shoot the show on his land this year or going forward?
You may not like it but the land owner is nice enough to let you use his property to shoot the show on so if he doesn't want salutes, your gonna have to comply with his wishes if you want to shoot and continue to shoot the show on his property.

Like MHPyro mentioned above, you can always find some other place to shoot the show that will allow you to shoot it the way you want. If that's not an option, your stuck to complying to the land owners wishes or just not shoot the show at all.
 
Salutes are nice but you can do other things that leave a more memorable moment for your audience. Be creative or you can do what a lot of people do such as walls of an effect(Crackle, brocade, willow).
 
Thanks for all the encouraging words everyone. Unfortunately this is the only shoot site I have available to me, if I loose this spot then I will be forced to give up my fireworks hobby and go back to just doing novelty items and fountains in my backyard as I live in the city where fireworks aren't allowed. I have paid for everything out of my own pocket to be able to do this 1 show a year and this will be my first year doing an actual show vs just lighting 1 item at a time. I have invested somewhere around 1500.00 or more investing in a cobra firing system 18m and 1 18R module as well as tubes and building racks and all the other various things like initiators and supplies and buying the actual product to use for the show. I have put my own money into all of this so no I am footing the entire bill for the show this year as well as in future years. So yes if you guys have any suggestions to give me as to how to get that wow factor from my audience without using salutes like I had originally planned please post your ideas. I guess I have been watch too many of Dave at Display fireworks 1's videos who claims you have to have salutes in your show or it isn't a real show. The store I buy from carries mostly Big Fireworks items with a smattering of a few other brands.
 
Fireworks clubs have for decades lost their shoot sites because a few members insist on salutes. I know for certain of two that folded as a result. I'd much rather have a shoot site than no shoot site. And shoot sites are increasingly difficult to find.

Just FYI, for several years we did a display where the nearest neighbor keeps horses. The horses were fine with modest salutes, but loud whistles drove them bonkers and we had to stop using whistle cakes including SMB.

The shows that I still get the most positive comments on, even a decade later, had an all Nishiki Kamuro finale.

Yeah I am hoping to get some Nashiki canister shells to put in the show and also maybe some Whacky Tabacky Noab or 2 if I can get them at a reasonable price.
 
I don’t use salutes often and the crowds don’t complain! Like it or not, the crowds love... crackle. The more at once the better. Or as previously stated, a sky full of willows, brocades or nishikis. I wouldn’t give the lack of salutes a second thought. Hey, you have a shoot site! That’s huge.

Yes and it is not far from me either like a 20 min drive. Thanks for the encouraging words I appreciate it !!
 
A salute finale is great, when I couldn't get them it's all I wanted. last three years I have been doing an intense 45-60 crackle with a few salute right at the . My feeling is I get more crowd reaction from the intense crackle than the salute.
 
Yes, an intense crackle finale is very good. I like the booms but a mass of crackle always gets more comments from my audience. Always.

I can totally feel your bummedness, but pyro on my friend. Respect the wishes of the landowner and make the most of it. Were you planning on doing a sky puke with salutes at the end? Maybe a nice noab case like MOAB, or Wackey Tobacky(if there’s anything left in your budget?) As others have mentioned-crowds love crackle-I can’t explain it-dont fight it-embrace the crackle...
 
Crackle is always good. I love crackle myself and like some have mentioned, the audience really seems to like crackle.
I'v done a gold wall before and that got a pretty good reaction from the crown and it wasn't even the finale.
I took a case of hot dog by world class and put a case of gold brocade bash up over top of it spread out between 3 stations and the crowd loved it.... not to mention the Pyro that was shooting it! :poop:
 
I had been putting my "effect with crackle" shells in a bin for several years because I didn't want much crackle in my shows. I was short on shells last year, so all those shells with crackle went toward the back on my finale racks. I got best feedback on that finale ever. It was really just puke with crackle at the end, but the crowd loved it. Time to start collecting those effect-with-crackle shells again.
