Seen some feedback on mjg initiators visco clips said they were only about 50%reliable contacted scott from cobra he verified so i re did 80% of my show with talons NOT VERY HAPPY

My opinion:

Using an item to adapt another item to something to make it work is just waiting for failure. Just finished a weekend with my fellow misfits (yes I include myself). Sat, a pro show, I can't say for the cake count. Assisting the lead doing a tube clear. Had 1 commercially chain blow mid chain. Cause unknown. 2 matches ignited but pyro failed to launch. Black match pinched/choked off. 3 match fail to light. Bad connection?? Continuity shows it is connected but not the amperage it can handle. I didn't grab the match to test (I should have, oh well) 600+ Imatch quick connect, MAYBE 2 box E-Match. All MJG. That was the commercial show.

I shot at my Son's house on Sunday. 18 cues split over 3 positions. 47 I-match in total. All MJG. 100% ignition 2 cross fire on 2 cakes. I am licensed in TX. I carry an ATF employee possessor with most I shoot for. I could have used E-Match BUT WHY?

Combined use over 700 I-Match & 60 E-Match in total.

We punched our cakes. Even though those commercial shells have match ports, we still used I-Match. 4/10 of 1 percent failure .0039.

Punching a cake is dangerous? IF you stupidly punch into flash, YUP. If you use anything that has a potential to create a spark, YUP.

Black powder (lift) does not ignite under pressure. It ignites by a high heat source. CPSC tests on consumer pyro. Part of there test is to subject consumer pyro to oven heat.

Research into it when you have a chance. It is not very hard to master.

Notes I follow in punching cakes.
1) Never pre-punch and match. There have been documented cases of reaction (ignition) between the match and black powder comp.
2) This one is personal preference. I cut the fuse to a stub and punch aside the hole the fuse goes thru. Fire in is FIRE in. I have read many and have talked to some saying leave the fuse intact. I tape my match in place on the actual tube. I cut out the BS wrapper

Not happy to hear this about the visco clips. I just bought a bunch. Tested about a dozen all worked fine. Did you angle cut the visco?

I had 5 gerb/strobe/flame stations that had 2 items each with visco. For one of them, I used my normal method (attaching a short piece of quick match with a ematch port on top of the existing visco cut at 45 degree angle). Those fired fine. I tried the visco clips on the other strobe pot. I cut the visco down, but didn't necessarily do a 45 cut on them. Only 4 of the 5 of those lit. (The video at electricmatch.com didn't say to cut them at 45.)

I had tested a few with visco before and they had worked with the initiators. (I tested a few with ematch and some of them did not work. I suppose the slower flame of the initiator might be better than the quick burst of an ematch.)

I don't think I'll use them for anything important. I still have some old inventory strobes and gerbs that have visco. I was hoping these would work them them.

This works:

Also at the 2:50 mark in this video is another adapter that works beautifully:

For what it's worth I did not have any initiators on hand so I used ematch. I don't know if one would work better than the other.
As for the angle cutting no I didn't see it said to do anywhere I have always just thought it was good practice.
I do like how secure it holds the visco and the match with these.

Thanks for posting. Nice tips. I tried using that version once before and had a few failur s due to the visco not lighting. Always thought it was because there was too much play in the visco end.

This year I added ports to all my cakes a shell chains in advance. All 1.4. Using the Grey Fast Fuse Running into the cakes. Green Visco on shell chains and just used masking or electrical tape to secure the port to the fuse. Every cake where the initiator popped went almost instantaneous. Had a few not pop at all, but I think it was an issue with the wires grounding out as I had my cousin landing cues on the module that had 8 cues fail to fire.
