I'm so close to tearing into this guys rack and ruining his party. I don't want to be a jerk and tactfully would like to call him out, but I need some backup lol. I just calmly asked him what build plans he used.

One slat on each top row, NONE on the bottom and it looks like he put screws through his plugs in about a 3rd of them. Those 2X4s also look like those cheap ass ones from Lowes that weigh like a pound each that you could saw through with a plastic butter knife from your KFC $5 dollar box.

Things like this are one of the big reasons I'm so pissed off that we lost Pyrouniverse. The wealth of rack building techniques, destructive tests and why we do things certain ways is all lost.

Looks to me as if none of those mortars are going anywhere the way they're packed in, and with the relatively wide and thick top slats. With the thick HDPE mortars, if he's shooting normal 1.75" commercial shells, he'll be fine; no commercial shell is going to blow them. Building out of 2-by wood gives you a lot of leeway in terms of strength and solidity.

If it was built for significant salutes, I'd do it differently, including spacers.
