It’s raining drones in China. They fell from the sky during a botched show in Zhengzhou.

Why does this make me chuckle?

So if the drones are ~12inches in length do they need a 840ft setback?

It looks like they have regressed to a default landing mode with a controlled rate of decent - Yes over public, those blades are little ginsu knives hunting for victims (Something more heavily regulated in the US by the FAA since April).

The energetic materials in a drone allow it to travel much farther than a star from a 12" shell.

But seriously drone shows can be cool but the idea of them as a current fireworks replacement is just silly.

The distance comment was just a joke.

For me, drones are cool in what they can do from a technological standpoint, but so far as entertainment it is about as exciting ad starring at a changing billboard.

I fear more and more cities will opt for "drone shows' in place of fireworks.

Did anyone see the Jeff Goldbloom fireworks special (on Disney Plus or NatGeo)? He talked about drones being a replacement for fireworks! NO Thank you! So boring..... The only place drones have in fireworks is for cool filming opportunities.
